The smoke and Islay characteristics of the Scarabus is there of course, with added influence of oak after being matured for a decade in a combo of refill ex-bourbon and virgin oak casks.   Coming from a mysterious ‘un-named’ distillery on Islay, Scarbus was launched for Fèis Ile 2019 by Hunter Laing. Meaning ‘Rocky Place’ in Old Norse, Scarabus is named after a mysterious part of Islay, and this mystery is reflected in the bottle.   Our Tasting Notes Nose: A softer note of Islay peat, sea spray, with a touch of spice and sweet vanilla Taste: Leathery oak, apples with continuing vanilla and peat smoke and oak.
