Kilchoman Am Bùrach Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) Volume: 700ml           ABV: 46%           Age: No Age Statement           Country: Scotland The Kilchoman Distillery was established in 2005, Kilchoman (pronounced Kilhoman) is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Based on a farm on the rugged west coast of Islay, Kilchoman is the first distillery to be built on the Island for 125 years. Kilchoman gives everyone the chance to see what is best about the grass-roots traditions of malt distilling. As well as being one of only a handful of distilleries still practicing floor malting, they also grow their own barley at the distillery, completing all parts of the production process at the distillery – from barley to bottling. This expression was a result of an accident at the small Islay distillery. A Stillman who will go unnamed decided to mix together some of the Kilchoman Machir Bay (Best Islay Whisky Under $100 in our opinion) and Kilchoman Port matured Kilchoman while vatting the casks. It has been cleverly named Am Bùrach which translates to ‘the mess’ in Gaelic by the Kilchoman General manager. The whisky was then filled back into ex-bourbon American oak barrels matured and afterward finished in ruby port casks. It really doesn’t feel like anyone knew what they were doing here but in the end they’ve ended up with a deliciously drinkable whisky. Our Tasting Notes Nose: Smouldering earth fire pit releases stewed apples and deep fried violet crumble. Red berry strudel and smooth creamy vanilla custard. Taste: Lemon Tart with toasted oat cakes, cinnamon and peppery spice. Finish: Red berries and sea salt.. For adults of legal drinking age. Please drink responsibly.
